Working And Traveling Is Easier Than You Think

Lately, I’ve been seeing a lot of programs all over the media that allow you to travel in groups and work while traveling. These programs are amazing and make the process very simple; they put you with a group, allow you to share rooms so that the prices are cheaper and overall it seems like an incredible experience.

There are also other ways that you can work and travel, like work on a cruise line, be a flight attendant, teach English abroad and a few others. But I think the perspective that you must join a program in able to work and travel needs to be rethought.

None of these programs ever stuck out to me because I wanted to travel for many different reasons but personally never wanted to stay in a group and have a set-up group schedule. Hopefully, I’m not the only one that feels this way.

You can work and travel in many other ways besides these, here are some that have worked for me.

Use Craigslist In The Area You’re Traveling

This seems so simple, and it is, but also very effective! My boyfriend and I traveled the coast for six months and every city we went to, we browsed Craigslist for available jobs, from one day gigs to temporary jobs. And we found many, from loading up boxes to photo shoots!

You can also post up a resume on Craigslist, offering your skills. For me, I offered writing and photography and I actually booked some autobiography and resume gigs for decent pay!

Talk to the businesses in your city

Yes, I’m aware this seems very different than what most travelers would do, but we found our best travel job on the road by simply asking around!

We went from one business to the next, told them our story and asked if they needed any miscellaneous help. We scored ourselves some jobs at a restaurant for two months, made over minimum wage, plus tips and made some amazing friends and memories! We got so many responses by sharing our stories that not only did people need help, but they wanted to find ways to help.

People offered simple yard work or clean up jobs. It got to the point that we had to start turning jobs down because we already had a few and needed time to still explore the area and enjoy our travel.

We did not have trouble finding a job anywhere that we went. Yes, I’m serious… anywhere! We were even honest about the short amounts of time we were willing to work.

Here are some things I did not do during my travels, but would consider for the future that are more based from a computer.

A virtual assistant

Online Marketer

Freelancer websites (UpWork, Writers.work)

The reason I never brought myself to try these things may have subconsciously been because I like to meet new people and work physically, but these jobs can give you more flexibility and even better pay. Being a digital nomad is worth looking into!

If you would like me to write something about places you can make a bit of money with writing/social media posting, please let me know in the comment section.

Something I want to say as well, is that online surveys are not worth your time and should not be considered a source of income. I have tried nearly every online survey platform out there and it takes aggravated, boring decades to make a simple ten dollars.

Making money while seeing the world does not have to be through a program and it does not need to be made in one spot. We made a decent amount of money with these simple strategies while traveling five different states and experienced so much more than we could in one city.  It may seem intimidating, but it is so exhilarating and really allows you to grow and become a more independent person.

New Moon Ritual

moon

The next new moon will be in our sky this 18th and the time couldn’t be any more perfect the current situation in my life. Though I am so happy to be back home with my loving family, working and earning more money for a future of adventures, I still long for the open road.

Having so much time to travel had allowed me to explore myself so much and I had never been so happy. So I guess a life of 11 hour work days, six days a week has left me little time to continue exploring my spirit and I am in deep need to reconnect.

This next new moon is the perfect time for me, as well as anyone, to reset their paths in the right direction and remove negativity from that path, this is what I will be doing this next new moon.

First off, because of my lack of time outdoors lately, I would like to do my ritual outside (that is if it’s not raining, which it does a lot on the west coast). I feel this is the best way to perform any ritual, as it connects you best to Mother Earth and the universe above.

Before your ritual, write down on little pieces of paper, a word or two describing emotions, habits, actions or thoughts of any kind that you want to let go of. For me, a few are negativity and disconnect. Bring these with you for your ritual.

First, set your surroundings with lots of candles and burn sage and\or rosemary around your atmosphere, to cleanse your aura of negative energies, I like to leave the smudge stick burning in a bowl next to me.

Your choice of crystals are a good choice to keep around your for rituals as well, for mine I chose amethyst and moldavite to help with spiritual connection, vanadinite to promote accomplishment, black tourmaline to deflect negative energies, citrine, as it is my birthstone and gives energies for good luck, clear quartz and selenite.

Sit yourself down and meditate a few moments under the night sky, recognize it’s meaning for new beginnings and about the things your about to let go of and know that they may not come back into your life.

When you feel ready, open your eyes and burn each piece of paper you had written on earlier, one at a time. As the words burn, give yourself time to really understand the words you wrote down and that by burning them, you are ridding them from your life, as they are only harming your spirit.

After you are through burning the negative intentions of your past, meditate with your future intention in your mind. Close your eyes and envision your future with all the intentions you wish your future to withhold. Remember that there is no time frame for this, envision all that you can, as long as you want, as if it’s already in your present.

Meditate with these intentions for the remainder of your ritual and when you open your eyes, know that you have become closer to your higher being, closer to a more positive, spiritual you.

Let Us Celebrate The Lives Of The Dead

This October has been such a beautiful one, I’m realizing that it’s one of my favorite months. It carries on the sunshine from the end of summer and still, the color of autumn within the trees.

Halloween continues to be one of my favorite holidays, maybe it’s because during a period of time as a child I was unable to celebrate it because it was “the devil’s holiday.”

I always found the traditions fun, but these traditions go a lot further back than modern day. The day/night of Halloween is known to be the day that releases the barrier between the dead and our world as the world begins to be darker, colder and bounty begins to die, only to begin again.

Originally, people dressed up to convince the dead that they were dead as well, so that they would not be bothered. People also decorated their houses as so and baked sweet goods as a peace offering to the dead to draw them away from their homes.

It is so interesting that this tradition remains nearly the same without the knowledge of it’s meaning.

None of this is necessarily the scary holiday it has turned to be. Halloween is known as a day of celebration to the people who have passed on and the lives that they had; many celebrate it as Samhain, as it was celebrated back in the Celtic age. This wiccan holiday is celebrated on the same day, but as a way to honor the dead in a beautiful way and also to recognize the original day marked as the end of summer and begin the darker days to restart nature’s cycle once more.

Many Pagans and Wiccan’s participate in rituals to honor the dead, if you’d like to participate in any, here are some examples.

The recognition of death is a very important stage within nature and our lives. I believe the more we recognize it, the less grief we would have for people who pass, but instead celebrate the lives that they had. That is what I see within Halloween… but it’s still fun to hand out candy and dress up as something, other than ourselves, under the moonlight.

I hope everyone has a Happy Halloween!

Sometimes Getting Lost Is The Right Direction

I’d be lying if I told you that the travelling lifestyle is all, as my stepmother called it, “hippie flowers and butterflies.” We have our worries just like anyone else, our worries are simply much different, consisting of where we will sleep tonight, the cheapest option for gas and finding the right directions.

After driving about 30 minutes in the wrong direction, we had to turn around and retrack our path. For any of you who do not know, we do not have a phone plan, we rely entirely on maps, which normally is not an issue, but yesterday it was.

We found ourselves very frustrated with the waste of precious time and gas money. It was difficult to stay positive throughout the situation, until we began to realize that everything happens for a reason, we just needed to wait for what that reason was.

When we reached McKenzie Highway, the sun began to set and we kept our eyes out for a place to camp for the night. We found ourselves parked in an empty lot off the side of the highway, right next to McKenzie River. We may have paid at least $40 a night to camp in a place like this anywhere else.

We took a moment to settle down, knowing that though we may not have reached Tilliwiger Hot Springs that day, we met our own personal nook of wilderness to slow down for a bit from all the driving and directions that we would not have experienced otherwise.

[tp_cheapest_flights_shortcodes origin=”SEA” destination=”TUS” subid=”direction” off_title=”false” currency=”USD” paginate=”false”]

The lesson we took away from this was that we may reach situations that go wrong in the future, a wrong turn, a wrong decision; but to keep in mind that everything is meant to happen for a reason, even if it appears as a mistake.

Right next to this crystal blue river was an amazing way to wake up the next morning and continue on to 126 towards Tilliwiger Hot Springs and Tamolich Falls.

Good Luck and Good Fortune Meditation

As we finally head off away from family and into our own atmosphere of life, to attract good luck is never a bad thing.

We have made some critical decisions within the last couple days, such as leaving our truck behind and relying upon our own feet, bicycles, buses and Uber to spare us the money spent on gas to tow the weight as well as on ground, we believe this will allow us to think more creatively as to how to best get where we need to be. We also have made a difficult decision to travel just to two of us (my boyfriend, our animals and I). As uneasy as this choice was, I know that we all shall grow into our own people and I wish my friend the best.

A call for good luck and good fortune is most needed now, and this is how I will do so if you’d like to join:

Crystals:

Tigers eye (for good luck and will-power)

Citrine (for good fortune, success and creativity)

Selenite (to ground and charge your energies)

Clear Quartz (to amplify your intentions and deflect negative energies)

All crystals are optional, if you don’t have some, don’t worry!

Incence:

          Lavender (for good luck)

          Sage (for cleansing your aura)

St. John’s Wort (for strength and happiness)

Find a peaceful space to set your incents and crystals and to sit comfortably.

Sit in the most comfortable position to meditate and do so for a few minutes. Once you find your zen, set your intentions on your future and how you see your goals playing out. Envision this future of bliss and success as if it’s happening already.

After you find contentment in that moment, begin to out loud thank the universe or whichever God you worship for every thing in your life that you are thankful for, no matter how small.

Some things I say are simply another day to breathe, the food I’ve had, the water, the coffee. This helps you to recognize and be thankful for the things that go overlooked.

Find a moment of still peace in your meditation after this. After doing so, say out loud the characteristics you want in your future as well as what you believe you carry now. Some things I saw are, “I am humble, I am confident, I am successful, I have great will power… ect.”

Find a moment of peace within your meditation once more and keep it for as long as you please, finishing off your meditation with a clear mind and the high vibrations of good luck around you.

Bow you head in Namaste.

It may be weird at first to say things aloud during meditation, but the power of affirmations and the law of attraction is a powerful manifestation that everyone should learn the tricks to. Trust in the universe to provide you with good luck in your future and keep your intentions within you with good faith.

Tune into the vibration and manifest abundance!

New Moon Bay Leaf Ritual

New Moon Bay Leaf Ritual

New Moon, New Intentions

The New Moon is the ideal time to let go of unwanted energy and bad habits in your life and begin again with new intentions, with the energy of the moon in your favor.

There are many rituals you can partake in to help with these intentions, as I will be leaving soon on my travels, there may be some troubling times when it is important to stay positive and trust my intuition. This new moon falls just days before leaving and so I find a ritual of helping my wishes come true to be perfect for the occasion.

Bay leaves are spiritually known to help grant wishes when you burn them, doing so on a new moon can amplify the energy of that wish. As it is also a time to let go intentions that do not serve you and begin again.

If you would like to participate in this ritual, as the new moon phase lasts approximately three days, these are the steps that me and my fellow travelers have participated in on this night.

What you will need :

Bay Leaves

Dried Bay Leaves and Flowers

Something to write with on the leaves

A candle (the color of the candle is optional, but can also depend on the wish, for each color has a different meaning with it comes to rituals. For ours, we chose a green candle, representing luck, nature, success and growth.)

Incense (optional, for this ritual we chose Frankincense for purification, protection and luck.)

Crystals of your choice (also optional, for this ritual we chose citrine for success and good fortune and also clear quartz to deflect negative energy and amplify our intentions.)

Sage or palo santo to cleanse your space.

Crystal + Cleansing Kit

Stay up to date with all things rituals + spirituality

For this ritual, I recommend being in nature under the new moon to be better connected to Mother Earth’s energy. Surround yourself with your incense and crystals and light your candle. After this you can cleanse your aura of negative energy by burning your sage or palo santo.

If you find yourself distracted with city noises, you can put on some nature sounds, this one here is my current favorite.

Sit down and meditate for a little while, cleansing the mind of negative energies and setting your intentions for this ritual and your future endeavors. Visualize yourself as if these goals are already accomplished in your life and feel the feelings that come along with that.

When you feel fulfilled with your meditation, you can then write your wish on your bay leaf, stay thoughtful about your wish as you set it on fire with your candle and watch it burn. It is important that you feel the energy around you and feel positive about this ritual granting your wish.

You can choose to meditate afterwards, to find peace of mind and good vibes for your future and make sure to trust the Universe with your wish.

I hope you enjoyed this ritual and I have actually created a free Manifesting with the Moon 101 Guide so you can take the energy of the new moon beyond just this phase for aligning your manifestations with the lunar phases. You can get this free workbook here.

This ritual sparks the beginning of my Moon Manifestation Course! a self guided, two week course, following from new moon to full moon and manifesting your desires with the lunar phases. Understanding manifestation and the moon’s impact on our energy.

Tools To Make Money For Travel

When I tell people of all the travelling that I plan to do, a lot of those people look at me like I’m a little crazy; like how will I afford it and that they could never do such a thing. But it’s really not as difficult as some may think.
Saving money for travel may take some trial and error, will power and a definite change in priorities. But when it comes right down to it, it’s really quiet simple.

First of all, let me just mention that if you really do your research and get ahold of some maps, there should be plenty of nearby adventures worth your while that hardly will cost a dime!

But if your thinking on a broader scale, some advice that I have would be to first get an airline credit card (check out my recommendation on one of my last post here).

Though a lot of my upcoming travels will be on wheels, the sooner you get an airline credit card, the better.

One good way to make money on the side is selling a lot of things just taking up space in your house

Go through your closet and get rid of all the things you never wear. Sell the extra bedding you have, the heels you never wear, the tools you never use, the dishes collecting dust. It will feel good to empty your house of clutter.

I recommend selling on OfferUp, Let Go, Craigslist and local buy and sell Facebook groups. You can also bring your clothes to a local Plato’s Closet.

If you really want to go above and beyond, sell just about everything from wall art to furniture! but only do this if you plan on travelling in an R.V or van.

You could also cancel subscriptions that you don’t take enough advantage of. You’re $40 gym membership (work out at home!) or your Birchbox subscription. These little things add up.

I’m telling you, it’s all about how much you truly want to travel/how far.

Saving your spare change in a jar is not overrated either. Give your change a designated jar that you will not touch!

Another tool I recently took advantage of, is an app called Qapital. This app is connected to your bank account and rounds up your transactions by two dollars and deposits it into your fund, until you’d like to cash it out.

This is helpful because it’s out of your hands, this little bit of change can add up to a lot within a year or so.

One other way to make quick money is with gigs on Craigslist. Labor work, event gigs and odd jobs; these all make good money fast! Though I warn you to be extra careful for scammed.

The last piece of advice I have to save money is to donate plasma. I have yet to do this, but I plan on it. Some local places in Spokane to donate plasma is CSL Plasma and Octapharma Plasma, though they are all over the U. S.

You can make about $75 a week for three hours (one hour each) to donate plasma. If you do that for a few months and put that money straight into your travel jar, you can collect a good amount of money.

You’ll notice that you can save thousands of dollars if you commit to this fund, with hardly saving any money from your own pay check.

Am I Appropriate Enough?

Since childhood, we have had an imprint in our minds of what’s right and what’s wrong, appropriate and inappropriate.

Of course manners are learned to teach common respect and some common sense, but I think what is wrong and what is right can be altered by everyone’s opinion. Therefore, once you develop and decide who you are in this world, it is your own opinion to decide if what you do is appropriate.

As a current student in journalism, I currently am being told and having to respond to what is considered appropriate as a journalist.

What to wear, what to say, how to behave, what not to do on social media, how to construct the perfect resume. And all I can think during this time is, “I will not be told who I am by an employer!” Don’t employers hire you for who you are, isn’t it your talent, opinions and way of inspiration what attracts someone to look to you in the first place?

If we were all to abide by these guidelines, what would set us apart from one another, what would keep us from working almost robotically?

Well… I refuse.

Why should I ever pretend to be something that I am not? Nothing about this would be to better myself whatsoever, but more of to lose myself completely.

We make choices for money in these modern days more than for the happiness of ourselves. We slowly strip away our personalities that make us unique, to fit the role of what is “appropriate.”

We seek progress, not in what we believe is our own personal successes, but in what we are told by society what progress is. To build, to get big jobs, to know big people, to know a lot of politics. Well, you know most of these topics, I do not qualify under. I am still in college and I already consider myself progressing and being successful because I know where my goals lie. They may be different, but I have a destination of where I’m going that I believe in.

Surprisingly, a lot of people don’t possess these things anymore; living their lives with clouded minds, basing their decisions off of what is expected and what is “appropriate,” and therefore, always feeling dissatisfied throughout their lives.

I am not meaning to be judgmental, I speak for myself when I say this as well, I am still struggling to climb out of the robotic structure of our modern world. We separate ourselves from everything natural this Earth holds, anything from nature to our own natural instincts and opinions.

When people question me that I am not traveling to some big city to get a hot shot job that will make a lot of money, I have gotten to the point that I am so inspired in the things I want to do with my life that it no longer matters. I will make true differences in this world instead of destroy it. I know that deep inside their minds they wish they would have done the same at my age, and I hope that one day they will aspire to me, that I never caved into this society which has become this Earth’s black hole.
